eye_implantPITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University’s Shawn Kelly has received a four-year, $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to develop a retinal prosthesis for restoring functional vision to the blind.

“This is wonderful support for work so critical to millions of Americans battling vision issues like macular degeneration,” said Kelly, a senior systems scientist at CMU’s Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES).
