Julie Fiez, a neuroscientist at the University of Pittsburgh’s Learning Research and Development Center and a member of the CNBC faculty, presented at Leadership Pittsburgh’s innovative retreat, Unboxed. Her talk is on the research she did on the part of the brain critical for reading. Called the visual word form area, this node on the lower left side of the brain allows people to interpret whole words and rapidly know what they mean.
