Phillips, Mary L.
M.D. Cambridge University, UK
Research InterestsDr. Phillips’ research has examined the brain basis of normal emotion regulation and the extent to which neural mechanisms underlying emotion regulation are abnormal in individuals with mood disorders. Using functional neuroimaging techniques, she has measured neural mechanisms of emotion regulation in healthy and mood-disordered populations, including individuals with bipolar disorder and major depression. Her findings indicate that individuals with different mood disorders can be distinguished by abnormal increases in activity within and connectivity between, neural regions important in regulating responses to emotional stimuli.
